Description: Evolution versus creationism (sometimes hot!). (Moderated)

very well put
OmegaD said: There is a lot of confusion about what the aim of science is. Science at its roots is about observation. It is useful in creating models, called theories, which are useful in predicting the outcome of experiments. Science cannot prove a theory. A theory is so named for the simple reason that it is... more »

Whales and Hippos - How did their mothers do it?
First, I don't know enough about the subject to ask questions, much less, answer them. I am just trying to give you guys a new topic. Whales and Hippos are closely related, but when I look for how they each came from a common ancestor I try to figure out how each got that way. The tail of the hippo is not there in a whale, and the birth tract is... more »

Chromosome 2
Simple question. Just looking at a diagram of the fusion of chromosome 2 in humans. I can see the centromere of chromosome 2 lines up with the chimp chromosome 2p centromere. I am now looking at the remnants of the chimp 2q centromere in the human chromosome 2. Question: Why do they look different? The human version is not tapered.... more »

lacks logic
The increase in relative abundance of the dark type was due to natural selection. The late eighteen hundreds was the time of England's industrial revolution. Soot from factories darkened the birch trees the moths landed on. Against a sooty background, birds could see the lighter colored moths better and ate more of them. As a result, more dark moths survived until... more »

Finger evidence that separates man from chimps
From the article [link] The human hand, a marvel of evolution that allows our species to use tools with unique dexterity, may owe its origin to changes in a critical genetic switch. Research has identified passages of DNA that appear to be involved in... more »

No Creationist EVER Exposed a Fraud or Error in Paleantology
There have been errors and, far fewer, frauds in the field of finding and interpreting fossil data. As in all human endevors, perfection is impossible to attain. However, every such instance has been exposed by scientists, sometimes scientists who made the original error, working with the evidence. None of them have been exposed by the leering, braying godidit donkeys... more »

Science Disproves Evolution
I'm cross-listing to talk.origins, where this kind of nonsense is usually dealt with. ...That's simply not true. See [link] for example. You might also want to look at chapter 10 of Neil Shubin's new book, _Your Inner Fish_. (Read the rest of it while you're at it.)... more »

to Adman: Here's an argument you can use
Hey Adman, I feel kind of sorry for you getting all beat up because you don't know the difference between "Archaeopteryx" and "Archaeoraptor" (after all, they're both big words that begin with an A, and all this "science" stuff is really really hard for you anyway, ain't it), so I decided to help you out, just to be a nice guy.... more »

Tony Pagano gets asked - again - the question he requested and is avoiding
On Wed, 03 Sep 2008 16:27:52 -0400, the following appeared in talk.origins, posted by T Pagano <not.va...@address.net>: ...Sorry, but you don't get to make the rules regarding content, although I'll start a new thread just for you. ...All rebuttals to your inanities are "good"; this one is particularly good because it results from your own request... more »

Public release date: 29-Feb-2008 [Study shows Darwin was wrong about the origins of chickens AND dogs]
Yellow-skinned chickens have a different version of a gene than their white-skinned cousins. Darwin believed that all chickens came from a wild species known as the red junglefowl. When the researchers looked for the yellow-skin gene in the red junglefowl, they only found the genetic variant that codes for white skin. More surprisingly, when they finally did find the... more »
